BuildCare is seeking a skilled and passionate Senior Draftsperson to join the team.

The opportunity: 

As a Senior Draftsperson at BuildCare, you will be responsible for producing accurate and high-quality architectural and structural drawings for Childcare, Residential, and Commercial projects. You will ensure that all documentation complies with Australian building codes and local regulations while collaborating with internal and external consultants.

Key Responsibilities:

Drafting & Documentation
  • Prepare detailed architectural and structural drawings for Childcare, Residential, and Commercial projects.
  • Ensure all documentation adheres to Australian building codes, local council regulations, and BuildCare’s design standards.
  • Keep drawings up-to-date and accurate throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring revisions are properly documented.
Design Coordination & Compliance
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and external consultants to refine designs and ensure compliance.
  • Incorporate feedback from regulatory bodies, contractors, and suppliers to ensure constructability and compliance with standards.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure drawings meet BuildCare’s standards and are error-free.
Construction & Project Support
  • Provide technical support during the construction phase, updating drawings as needed.
  • Work closely with site supervisors and contractors to resolve design-related issues promptly.
  • Ensure as-built documentation is prepared and finalized after construction completion.
Process & Standards Management
  • Maintain and improve BuildCare’s drafting templates, standards, and procedures to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Ensure documentation is organized, accessible, and up-to-date for future reference.
Mentoring & Team Support
  • Support our support offshore drafting team members, ensuring they meet quality standards.
  • Provide technical expertise to assist in problem-solving, design improvements, and maintaining high-quality drafting outputs.
Stakeholder Communication
  • Liaise with Explorers Early Learning stakeholders to integrate operational requirements into designs.
  • Work with local councils and approval authorities to facilitate planning and building permit approvals.
  • Provide updates to the Group CEO and CFO on project progress and key milestones as needed.

Skills & Experience: 
  • Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Building Design (Architectural), Drafting, or a related field.
  • A degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management (preferred but not essential).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other drafting software.
  • Understanding of Australian Building Codes (NCC), local council regulations, and relevant childcare facility standards.
  • Minimum 5+ years of drafting experience in the construction or architectural industry.
  • Experience in commercial or childcare centre projects (preferred).
  • Exposure to design coordination and documentation management for construction projects. 
  • Expertise in AutoCAD, Revit, and other drafting software.
  • Strong understanding of architectural and structural detailing for childcare and commercial buildings.
  • Ability to create and interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of building materials, construction methods, and engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with creating checklists for building permit approvals.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Australian Building Codes (NCC), local council regulations, and town planning requirements.
  • Understanding of childcare-specific design standards and accessibility requirements.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with project managers, engineers, site supervisors, and external consultants.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to liaise with stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Experience coordinating drawing submissions and approvals with councils and permit authorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve design conflicts or constructability issues.
  • High attention to detail to ensure accuracy and consistency in drawings.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
