FAQs
Here you'll find answers to the questions families ask us most often about enrolling at Explorers, from fees and holidays to meals and what to bring.

What do I need to bring?
Children need to bring their own bag to the centre each day, which can be stored in your child's locker. Pack clearly labelled items, including:
- Milk bottles or formula
- A comfort item
- A reusable water bottle (water only)
- Nappy cream (Sudocrem preferred)
- A complete change of clothes: three sets for toilet-training children
- A warm jumper, hat, or jacket for cool weather
- A wide-brimmed or legionnaires hat for sun protection (September to April, per our Sun Smart policy). Baseball caps do not offer enough protection and are not recommended.
- The Explorers Wet Bag
- The Explorers Belonging Bag
What does Explorers provide for my child?
Centres supply all meals (breakfast from opening to 8am, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, and a late snack), along with nappies and wipes, sunscreen, children's bedding, bottles, and S26 formula.
Will I be charged if I go on holiday?
Explorers offer families a 50% discount off their fees for holidays. You can claim up to four weeks of holiday discount per calendar year. Four weeks' notice is required, and holidays need to be taken for a minimum of one week.
Do Explorers' centres close at any time during the year?
Explorers is open 52 weeks a year, closing only on weekends and public holidays.
When does the Kindergarten operate?
The Explorers Kindergarten Program runs 52 weeks of the year, across the whole day. Kindergarten Funding and the Free Kinder subsidy are applied to family accounts across 40 weeks of the year, usually from late February to mid-December.
How do I know if my child is eligible for Early Start Kindergarten (ESK) or Pre-Prep funding?
Your child may be eligible if they are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, are known (or have previously been known) to child protection, or come from a refugee or asylum-seeker background — this can include a parent or grandparent. To ask questions or discuss your circumstances, contact us.
